7 days!

I can't hardly believe I am finishing up my 6th year of teaching!

It seems like yesterday I graduated and got my first teaching job at CyFair ISD. Teaching was difficult that semester due to: the area my school was in, open-concept - which is a totally new thing to me, starting mid year, getting kids from every other classroom, and I was a fresh out of college and didn't yet know what exactly working in a school and trying to teach was like.  The best part of my first semester of teaching was living with my brother, sister in law, and then 2 year old niece... can't believe it will be going to second grade next year!

College prepares you somewhat, I guess, but honestly you don't know what it's like until you jump in. At the moment you jump in you have to try to stay afloat and try to learn from every mistake, which there will be a lot, and know what is coming next year.  I by no means claim to be the best teacher but I do hope that I have learned and my students have learned over the last 6 years and pray I can be better every year.

So, over the last 6 years I have literally lived and taught across Texas -

  • Jan 2009-May 2009 - Kindergarten, Houston, TX
  • 2009-2011 - First grade, Copperas Cove, TX
  • 2011-2012 - Kindergarten, Copperas Cove, TX
  • Then I got married and moved to Lubbock so David could finish his undergrad
  • 2012-2013 - Pre-K, Snyder, TX
  • Moved to Amarillo for David's school
  • 2013-2014 - LLI 4th & 5th grade, Amarillo, TX
Teaching has been what I've wanted to do since second grade and it has been a good experience.  With that being said, I look forward to the day, several years from now, that I will get the choice to stay home with [Lord willing] our children.  They say the average teacher last about 5-10 years...  Sounds about right for how many years I will end up putting in.

Until then, I am looking forward to what I will be teaching next year.  I know I will be in a classroom again but I do not know what grade.  At least I get to stay at the same school! Hopefully I will get to finally be in the same classroom for more than one year.

So ready for summer!

  1. I don't know...maybe you should try to teach in a few more cities before you throw in the towel! :-)
